Ralph Waldo Emerson "Self-Reliance" Response
Emerson says that the problem with society is that its goal is to conform people "The virtue most in request is conformity". He goes on to say that the conformity then robs people, "Society everywhere is in a conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members. Society is a joint-stock company, in which the members agree for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater. The virtue in most request is conformity" People that succeed in life our independent and do not conform to others. But would rather have others conform to them so they are the only people to succeed. I disagree with this I believe all people should be able to succeed and should not be put down. All should be treated equal, and all have the ability to be leaders and successful people in life. The extraordinary profoundness and precision of that man's thinking have given vogue to his nomenclature, in Europe and America, to that extent, that whatever belongs to the class of intuitive thought, is popularly called at the present day Transcendental.
